Twitter Header Images: Information and Examples

Posted on September 19th, by Rebekah May in Social Media. No Comments

Twitter introduced an updated design to profiles today, featuring new header images which are visible online as well as on Iphone, Ipad and Android dev ices.  The header image, similar to Facebook’s cover photo, will appear at the top of your twitter stream.   This image is different than your profile picture, which will now be placed in the center of the new header image.

This prominent placement provides brands with a great way to show off your company and add a little personality to your Twitter page.   Twitter CEO Dick Costolo discussed the new changes, saying:

“Today’s changes are all about bringing that personality forward. More media forward, more photos forward,”

If you are looking for a little inspiration for your own brand, Mashable has curated a great list of “Twitter Header Images Done Right.” Here is an example of what the new header images look like, taken from the Mashable article above:

What you need to know:

The Twitter header image size is 1252 x 626 (max size of 5 megabytes)

To upload your new header image, go to Twitter > Settings > Design > Customize Your Own.

If you want to create an image, similar to the above example, where your profile image is part of your header image, Mashable has a great video guide to Uniting Your Avatar and Header Image.
